Jean Caton - Inspiring and Empowering the Women of the World... One Woman at a Time

How Do You Define Success?

Do you measure success by the possessions you acquire, your job title, your salary, or other external society criteria? Or are you more like the successful people interviewed by Success Magazine October 2006, for the article What Really Matters Now?

According to the article, “I’ve made it” no longer simply means the big bank account or 6-7 figure salaries. Those interviewed have financial success but also ‘get’ what life is all about - values and life priorities. Here are some of my favorites from the list of the 25 success symbols

  • Living and working where you want
  • Sharing an office with your kid
  • Your health
  • Sleep (Deep, peaceful, and uninterrupted)
  • An Assistant
  • Giving back
  • Time
  • Knowing there is nothing you would rather be doing

Your assignment:

  • Assess your satisfaction with life using a tool such as the Wheel of My Life*. or True Values® assessment *. Make necessary changes based on what you learn.
  • Write down the five most important things you hope your family and friends will say when they honor you at your 95th birthday party.
  • Examine how you spend your time for one day. What percent of your time is aligned with your most important values and life priorities?
  • Develop a Business Plan for your Life that has a strategy to achieve your definition of success.
