Marketing a Service Business
 Nine Nuggets

  1. Define your Business Purpose; Vision; Mission. Everything you spend your time doing should be aligned with the purpose, vision, and mission.
  2. Determine your niche and the specific benefits your service provides to that niche. Too broad a niche –trying to be all things to all people- leaves you without a clear distinction to market your business.
  3. Be unique. Develop a signature personal brand and learn how to market yourself. As a service business, you are your product.
  4. Develop an Elevator Speech or 30 second Commercial that concisely and precisely describes what you do. Use it to respond to the question “what do you do?” in a way that assure the response communicates effectively.
  5. Have a Marketing Plan and Marketing Calendar: Market constantly until you have a full practice that is based on word of mouth referrals.
  6. Forget paid advertising. Use innovative and affordable marketing techniques including Public Relations (PR)
  7. Network effectively to get your business noticed. Visibility with the thought leaders and influencers in your community generates business.
  8. Get paid what you are worth. Positioning your business as a premium priced service will communicate quality to the consumer. People realize you get what you pay for.
  9. Don't go it alone. Seek advice from a mentor or coach. Learn how to market and overcome your fears, uncertainties, and resistance to marketing by reading and taking classes.
